Author Maurice Sendak has died at the age of 83. Sendak was an author whose
books were loved by children and adults. The most familiar title among his books
would probably be Where the Wild Things Are , however he wrote many other
very popular works. Not only did he write his own works and illustrate them,
he illustrated the works of many other writers. In addition to books, he also used
his many talents to design the sets for several operas and plays including “The Magic Flute,” “The Cunning Little Vixen,” and “Really Rosie.”
The New York Times has a long obituary article today describing Sendak’s impressive career
including contributions to many areas of art and literature. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/09/books/maurice-sendak-childrens-author-dies-at-83.html
National Public Radio has broadcast several programs in the last few days with segments discussing Sendak and his impact on a wide range of writers, commentators, and members of the general public.
