As a
follow-up to my previous entry into The Blimp about the lost art of
conversation, I’d like to call attention to the sort of person who enjoys
solitary pursuits. An introvert
often seeks quiet and enjoys being alone with a book, an idea, or
nature. This person may make great contributions to literature or science
or art but not feel at home in large groups or even small groups.
We
recently bought a book by Susan Cain entitled Quiet: The Power of
Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking 155.232 Cai
Then,
I discovered an article in the New York Times written by Cain about her book and her
new role in promoting her book in “An
Introvert Steps Out, how the author of Quiet delivered a rousing speech.”
My
next stop was the TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) appearance which she describes in her
