Social Media and Loneliness

In this episode of the Diane Rehm Show, Diane's guests explore the connection between reported increases in loneliness and the rapid rise of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Does Facebook erode our ability to connect with one another in meaningful ways, or does it actually improve our connections with other people?

What are the implications of a performance culture -- defining ourselves through the way that others react to what we post?

I should point out that Sherry Turkle from MIT is one of Diane's guests. Ms. Latzer linked to Ms. Turkle's latest book in an earlier Blimp post.
